ZURICH (Reuters) - Roche Holding AG's Pegasys hepatitis
treatment has won approval from European authorities for use in HIV
patients who also have hepatitis C, the Swiss drug maker said on
Thursday.
Roche said that Pegasys, in combination with ribavirin, was the
first hepatitis C treatment to be given the green light for use in
co-infected patients.
The decision had been expected after a European Union medical panel
gave a positive recommendation on the use of the drug in patients with
HIV. Some 30% of patients with HIV are thought to also be infected with
hepatitis C, Roche said.
