With profound sadness, we mark the passing of our colleague and friend, Bruce Bacon, MD, a towering figure in hepatology and an even greater human being. His loss is deeply felt across the liver community and far beyond.
Dr. Bacon served on the CLDF Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2019, continuing his involvement as an emeritus member thereafter. He was instrumental in shaping the success of CLDF, making invaluable contributions to our educational mission and serving as an exceptional faculty member.
A remarkable physician, scholar, investigator, educator, and leader, Dr. Bacon exemplified the highest ideals of academic medicine - blending clinical excellence with deep compassion and generosity. He devoted his life to advancing hepatology, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the field. His legacy as a researcher, teacher, and mentor will continue to influence generations to come.
But beyond his many professional accomplishments, Bruce was truly special. He was kind, wise, and deeply humane. He cared not only about people's careers and achievements, but about their well-being and happiness. Many of us were fortunate to call him both a mentor and a friend. He shaped countless lives through his thoughtful guidance, unwavering support, and heartfelt encouragement. On a personal note, his friendly smile, quick wit, warm humor, and wise counsel touched each and every member of the CLDF Board of Trustees. His presence brought joy, perspective, and a sense of calm to every discussion. We are grateful for the time we shared with him.
Bruce Bacon will be remembered with admiration, gratitude, and deep affection. He will be deeply missed.
